One of the world’s leading international conferences dedicated to research integrity and trust in science — the World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI) — will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, in 2028. The 10th WCRI will be the first World Conference on Research Integrity to take place in Northern or Eastern Europe.

The Estonian bid was announced as successful at the closing ceremony of the 9th WCRI, held in Vancouver, Canada, which brought together more than 700 participants from 57 countries. The right to host the next global conference was awarded after a three-stage selection process. The Estonian lead organiser is Professor Margit Sutrop, Head of the Centre for Ethics at the University of Tartu. The successful bid was led by the Centre for Ethics at the University of Tartu, in cooperation with the professional conference organiser Publicon OÜ.

„Hosting the 10th World Conference on Research Integrity in Estonia is a great honour and a strong recognition of the Estonian research community and the wider Baltic Sea region, where cooperation on research ethics and integrity has been growing steadily,” said Sutrop.

According to Sutrop, the conference will bring together leading international experts and practitioners from around the world to discuss some of the most important questions concerning research integrity, responsible research, trust in science and the future of research culture. „The conference gives Estonia an opportunity to be at the centre of international discussions, to learn from the experience of other countries, and to contribute more actively to shaping the future of trustworthy science,” Sutrop added.

The conference welcomes researchers, doctoral students, research managers, research integrity officers, funders, reviewers, editors, publishers, ethics committee members, science policy experts, research administrators, and other stakeholders. It is open to all research fields and to participants at different career stages and in different roles across the research system.

The organisation of the conference in Estonia is supported by the University of Tartu, the Estonian Research Council, the Estonian Academy of Sciences, the Estonian Convention Bureau and the City of Tallinn. Cooperation is also planned with other Estonian universities, research institutions and research-intensive companies.

Further information about the conference dates, venue and programme will be announced soon.

All interested participants are warmly welcome to attend! See you in Tallinn in 2028!

The conference will be organised in close cooperation with Zoë Hammatt and Chris Graf as Conference Co-Chairs on behalf of the WCRI Foundation. The bid to bring the 10th WCRI conference to Estonia was supported by the Estonian Convention Bureau’s international conference bidding programme.
