Since 2018, the Centre for Ethics has taught the university-wide course Good Research: Framework Requirements, Values, and Principles of Action to doctoral students at the University of Tartu. It is offered in Estonian in the autumn semester and in English in the spring. The course connects the principles of research integrity with questions arising in researchers’ everyday work, including participants’ rights, data use, authorship, conflicts of interest, supervision, publication, communication, and responses to possible breaches.
The Centre also teaches research ethics to doctoral students at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and the Estonian Academy of Arts, to master’s students at Tallinn University, and at Tallinn Health Care College. This cooperation enables teaching to respond to the needs of different fields while resting on shared principles of good research.
24 ECTS, 2 semesters (2022/2023)
Programme Director: Kertu Rajando
The aim of this micro-credential programme is to train experts who are capable of addressing ethical issues within their professional fields and providing ethics-related training to others. Upon completing the programme, participants will be able to develop procedures for responsible research conduct, establish research ethics advisory systems within their organisations, investigate alleged breaches of research integrity, serve as ethics advisers, create educational and methodological materials on ethics, and deliver ethics training. The competencies acquired through the programme are valuable for leadership roles as well as for positions involving the coordination of education and research, advisory work, and membership of ethics committees and ethics review boards. The programme equips participants with both a theoretical understanding of ethical issues and the practical skills needed to address them effectively in professional and institutional contexts.
