Anniversary conference on the study of emotions brings top philosophers to Tartu

On 15–17 June, the 10th annual conference of the European Philosophical Association for the Study of Emotions will take place in the Lossi 3 study building of the University of Tartu, bringing together top philosophers from Estonia and around the world to discuss the topic of emotions. The conference is held in English, and all interested are welcome.

According to the chief organiser on behalf of the University of Tartu, Junior Research Fellow in Ethics Heidy Meriste, it is a general-interest conference that offers fascinating listening also for those who are not philosophers. “The conference will delve into a broad spectrum of emotional phenomena ranging from positive ones such as joy, curiosity, belonging, empathy, and trust, to negative ones such as shame, humiliation, blame, guilt, anger, ressentiment, fear, anxiety and loneliness,” said Meriste.

Participation in the conference is free of charge. Please register by 12 June 14:00.

See the conference programme and abstracts of the presentations. The pre-conference workshop "Emotions – More Like Stars or Constellations?” takes place on 14 June.

The Estonian organisers of the conference are Heidy Meriste, Junior Research Fellow in Ethics; Bruno Mölder, Professor of Philosophy of Mind; and Triin Paaver, Administrative Manager of the Centre for Ethics.
