An international workshop on animal ethics will take place in Tartu
On 9 March, an international workshop entitled „Animal Ethics at the Boundaries of the Human: Moral Status and Normative Authority“ will take place at the University of Tartu (Jakobi 2–336, Tartu). The workshop will focus on current issues in animal ethics and will be conducted in English.

Early-career researchers' workshop discusses ethics and emotions
On November 24, the early-career researchers' workshop, "Ethics and Emotions", will take place in Jakobi 2-114. The workshop brings together Susimetsa Philosopicum’s visiting scholars from the University of Geneva and the University of Lund, as well as local researchers from the University of Tartu. Everyone interested, including students, is most welcome!

From October 1–3, 2025, the University of Tartu Ethics Centre hosted an international research integrity seminar organized by the Alliance4Life_BRIDGE project, bringing together research ethics specialists from 11 Central and Eastern European countries.

International Philosophy Workshop to Be Held in Tartu
On 1–2 April 2025, the Philosophy Graduate Workshop in Tartu will be hosted by the Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Ethics at the University of Tartu. The event will bring together experienced philosophers from across Europe.

Urte Laukaityte guest lecture on the philosophy of psychiatry
On 2 December at 14:15, Urte Laukaityte (UC Berkeley) will give a talk titled "Symptom Perception as Inference: The Scope of Functional Neurological Disorder" in Jakobi 2-336. Urte is completing her doctoral dissertation on the philosophy of psychiatry at UC Berkeley and is currently Prof. Dr. Theda Rehbock’s Philosophy Resident at Susimetsa Philosophicum.

How ethical is it to kill your enemies? Oxford Professor Jeff McMahan presents special issue on Russia-Ukraine war
On 5 September, one of the world’s leading moral philosophers, Professor Jeff McMahan from the University of Oxford, will give a public lecture on the ethics of killing and just war theory. His lecture marks the publication of a special issue of a philosophy journal focused on the Russia-Ukraine war. The event will be held from 16:00 to 18:00 in White Hall at the University of Tartu Museum.

Tartu Semiotics Summer School "Learning in Transformation" in Viljandi
XV International Tartu Semiotics Summer School titled “Learning in Transformation” takes place from August 28 to 31 in Viljandi, Estonia. The focus of the summer school revolves around themes related to learning, teaching, and schools (not least including the Tartu-Moscow school of semiotics). Registration is open until July 1st.
