Anniversary of the Centre for Ethics

The Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu will celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 7-9, 2011.

Opening Ceremony
September 7, 2011, 4 pm
Assembly Hall, theMain Building of the University of Tartu

The welcoming speeches will be given by the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the Minister of Education and Research Prof. Jaak Aaviksoo and the Rector of the University of Tartu Prof. Alar Karis. Also Prof. Toivo Maimets, the Chairman of the board of the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu and the Head of the Centre for Ethics Prof. Margit Sutrop will take the floor. The academic lecture #file2# will be given by Prof. Jürgen Mittelstrass.

International conference "Ethics in Sciences and Society"
September 8-9, 2011, Tartu

The Centre for Ethics of University of Tartu celebrates its 10th jubilee with an international conference titled "Ethics in Sciences and Society" which will view the different aspects of both - theoretical and practical ethics. Almost all the research fields are covered.

On the first day several lectures will be held by the top researchers and scientists of the world and a panel discussion on the topic of teaching ethics in a University will conclude the day.

The second day will focus on Estonia. The presenters are the scientists from the University of Tartu and people from different fields.

The conference is organised by the Centre for Ethics at the University of Tartu in cooperation with the Graduate School of Linguistics, Philosophy and Semiotics; Doctoral School in Economics and Innovation; the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu, Department of Public Health of the University of Tartu, Protocol and International Relations Unit of the University of Tartu, University of Konstanz (DAADOstpartnerschaftsprogramm), the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology of the University of Tartu and the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research (National Programme “Value Development in Estonian Society 2009-2013”).
